Priyanka and Jack: “What’s a Mehndi?”
On the weekend of May 26th-27th I received the great opportunity of filming my first traditional Indian wedding. Even though I entered the weekend with my usual confidence, a small part of me felt like it was my first wedding all over again. The evening before the wedding I drove up to the Holiday Inn in Boxboro, MA where I filmed their Mehndi. What is a Mehndi you may ask? What I can tell you that it includes dozens and dozens of people playing music, singing and dancing. It was one of the most unique and joyous events I’ve ever had the privilege of filming.
The following evening we were subjected to even more new experiences. The festivities started off with a parade in the parking lot of the Best Western Royal Trade Plaza in Marlboro, MA. Followed soon by the most elaborate ceremony I’ve ever seen. The intricate Henna designs on Priyanka, and the ornate wedding regalia worn by both were a sight to see. The night included more singing and dancing performances. After some traditional Indian music the sound shifted to some modern dance songs that the bride, groom, and their guests grooved to the rest of the night.
